Dr. Tamunoinemi Disrael Bob Manuel (Emi) from Nigeria

Q: Dear Emi, please tell me what has happened since you came to Budapest in 2007?

A: After completing the Pre-Med program in 2008, I continued my medical studies at Semmelweis University, where I graduated in 2014. Driven by a passion for heart and vascular care, I pursued specialization in Interventional Cardiology, training and working across several leading U.S. institutions in Baltimore, Memphis, New Orleans, and New York.

Today, I serve as the Director of the vascular and vein program at Stern Cardiovascular, one of the region’s leading cardiovascular centers, while also working as an Interventional Cardiologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.

Throughout my journey, I’ve relied on a simple but effective formula for success: setting clear goals, creating structured study checklists, practicing consistent time management, maintaining a balance between work and personal time, and never hesitating to seek help when needed.

I am especially proud of publishing 50 peer-reviewed research papers and of earning the opportunity to lead the vascular and vein program at the largest cardiovascular practice in Memphis—milestones that reflect years of dedication, curiosity, and a commitment to patient care.

Q: What would you recommend to present Pre-Med students?

A: Please make use of this time, learn as much as you can learn about Budapest and learn some Hungarian. This is one of the best investments you can make, getting a solid foundation for your medical career, plan and have a goal for the year!

Q: How did the Pre-Med Program shape your personal and professional values?

A: This program laid the foundation for me to understand collaboration with different cultures, backgrounds and get accustomed to learning medicine and science in a European and very practical way.
